SUNSHINE &TRY’S GALORE IN CULLINAGH

On a beautiful sunny afternoon in Cullinagh,Newcastle West moved a step closer to claiming silverware with this emphatic win over Richmond. This came close on the heels of comprehensive victories over Abbeyfeale and Ennis. At half time in this cup game in Newcastle West on Sunday, the outcome of the fixture was already decided with NCW leading 31-5. That score reflected the trend of the half but Richmond fell apart in the second 40 minutes, leaking a whopping 47 points. Daniel Normoyle and Dave Foley had a try each for Newcastle West in that opening half with Shane Airey firing over a conversion. The tries flowed in the same direction after the break and there were further tries for NCW from Michael Bourke, James Corbett, Sean Murphy,Jason Woulfe a try each and Cian Tierney helping himself to two well taken touchdowns late in the game. NCW were also awarded a penalty try after Shane Airey was tackled without the ball when a touchdown was inevitable. Shane Airey added two conversions With Sean Herlihy on target with three more Brian Bennett scored Richmond’s try.

At the break Richmond appeared to be drained of energy reserves and the fitter, faster and more determined Newcastle blew them away in the second half

Sean Murphy gave a man of the match performance followed closely by Daniel Normoyle.

The final to The Transfield Cup is likely to take place over the October bank holiday. The first XV next outImg will be in the league V Thomond on Sunday 11th October at 2.30 pm in Liam Fitzgerald Park Limerick.
